He was instrumental in the development of chamber music such as the string quartet and piano trio. His contributions to musical form have led him to be called "Father of the Symphony " and "Father of the String Quartet ".
Franz Joseph Haydn was born on March 31, 1732, in Rohrau, Austria. When he was 7 he entered the choir school of St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. He composed avidly but had no formal training until his late teens, when he worked with the Italian Niccolò Porpora.
Some interesting facts: He was one of the greatest composers of the classical period. He is often known as the ‘father of the symphony’. He is sometimes known by the nickname ‘Papa’ Hadyn. Unlike Mozart, he became very rich from composing music. He taught Beethoven for a short while.
