It was held by the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf [1] until returned to the heirs of Kurt Grawi in 2022, and sold at auction by them.

It may be considered one of his later pieces, completed shortly before he went to fight in the German Army in 1914. As with many of Marc’s pieces, it demonstrates his interest in capturing nature within his work.
