The Missouri Death Certificate database can be searched by first, middle and last name, county, year and month. Digitized images of the original death certificates are linked to the search results. Death certificates began being recorded statewide in 1910 and are closed for 50 years before they are transferred to the Missouri State Archives.
In order to provide Missouri citizens with immediate, free access to these records, the Archives began a three-and-a-half year project to index and digitize all of the death certificates for placement online. A complete index, searchable by name, county, month and year, was placed online in April 2006.
National Vital Statistics System (Mortality Data) Missouri death records are compiled from death certificates which are filed with the Department of Health and Senior Services by state law ( Missouri Revised Statute, Chapter 193 ).
