    Gary Kubiakcollapsed on the field in what was later diagnosed as a transient ischemic attack (TIA), or mini-stroke, during halftime of the Texans game against Indianapolis. He was hospitalized for two days.

    Then-Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips assumed head coach duties the following week and for Houston’s game against Arizona while Kubiak took the week to rest.

    Kubiak was hired as the Broncos head coach and he spoke later about his 2013 mini-stroke saying “(I) probably ran myself into the ground a little bit,” and he “learned a lot from that.”

    Kubiak talked about his mini-stroke in a feature for Stroke Smartand said the scare led him to reduce his workload and stress level while coaching. He also said he was given a clot-busting thrombolytic drug while at the hospital and felt normal after a couple of days.

    Kubiak suffered “a complex migraine condition that caused extreme fatigue and body weakness” after Sunday’s 23-16 loss to the Falcons that led to him staying in a nearby hospital overnight. Broncos general manager John Elwaysaid he was “very tired” and “lethargic,” but they were “very encouraged” by his progress.

    Kubiak was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and headed home. Under instructions from doctors and Elway, he will take this week for “Gary to worry about Gary.”

    Elway said the plan is for Kubiak to return to work Monday as doctors advised him to take a week off.
