Clad in stainless steel and built in the form of a weighted catenary arch, it is the world's tallest arch and Missouri's tallest accessible structure. The Gateway Arch is 630 feet high, making it the tallest monument in the United States. It is as wide as it is tall. We don’t know if it is also the widest monument. Construction began in 1961 and concluded October 28, 1965 with the installation of the final section.
