Gelsenkirchen ([ˌɡɛlzn̩ˈkɪʁçn̩] ⓘ) es una ciudad situada en el estado alemán de Renania del Norte-Westfalia, y más concretamente en la zona norte de la región del Ruhr y de la macrorregión metropolitana Rin-Ruhr.

Gelsenkirchen [ɡɛlzənˈkɪrçən] ist eine Großstadt im zentralen Ruhrgebiet in Nordrhein-Westfalen und gehört zur Metropolregion Rhein-Ruhr. Die kreisfreie Stadt im Regierungsbezirk Münster ist in der Landesplanung als Mittelzentrum ausgewiesen. Sie ist Mitglied im Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe und im Regionalverband Ruhr.
