  3. Azterodt fled Washington and was arrested on April 20, apprehended at the house of his cousin Hartman Richter in Germantown, MD. Atzerodt was tried and convicted for conspiracy to commit murder, and he was executed by hanging on July 7, 1865. He is buried in an unmarked grave at Glenwood Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
