The rent is due, but the Evans family is short $74 dollars. James and J.J. devise schemes to come up with the money, while Florida and Willona go down to the welfare office to plead their case.

It looks as though the Evans family will be forced out into the streets because a second job for James hasn't solved his family's troubles, and Florida is opposed to the other solutions because they are either illegal, immoral or embarrassing!

With an eviction notice over their heads, the Evans family scrambles to come up with $74 needed for their rent. Despite Florida's opinion, James goes down to the pool hall to try to hustle some money; J.J. comes up with a scheme of his own and Florida and Willona go down to the welfare office.
