Gothika is a 2003 American supernatural psychological horror thriller film directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and written by Sebastian Gutierrez. Halle Berry plays a psychiatrist in a women's mental hospital who wakes up one day to find herself on the other side of the bars, accused of having murdered her husband.
When It comes down to psychological supernatural thrillers, Gothika is one of the best in its league alongside the early 2000s supernatural films The Others, Stir of Echoes and much more. But be careful with these types of movies they are not as fiction as people think, America and Hollywood's obsession with ghosts and demons:)

The movie and story itself is really, REALLY good. It is a little disturbing so please be mindful of that but it doesn't rely on disturbing if that makes sense. The only bad thing about this movie is, it reminds you that they don't make movies like this anymore (a dang good story line and great acting).
Nov 21, 2003 · The sainted Pauline Kael taught us: The movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash, we might as well stop going. I don't know if she would have defined "Gothika" as great trash, but in trash as in art there is no accounting for taste, and reader, I cherished this movie in all of its lurid glory.
