When visiting Ghent for a few hours as we travelled across Belgium we walked past the stunningly well reserved 10th Century moated castle that is the Gravensteen. The current castle dates from 1180 and was the residence of the Counts of Flanders until 1353. It was subsequently re-purposed as a court, prison, mint, and even as a cotton factory.

Opening Hours: Open from 10:00 to 16:40 or 10 am to 4:40 pm. This time is the last entry time but for those inside the castle, they can roam around until 18:00 or 6:00 pm.
Oct 8, 2023 · Gravensteen Castle is open year-round except for major Belgian holidays. The standard visiting hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. Last admission is at 5:00 PM since it takes about an hour for visitors to fully experience the castle interior. Gravensteen Castle is only closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
