Jul 20, 2023 · The easiest hike to Griffith Observatory is the West Observatory Trail Loop, which starts at Fern Dell (aka Ferndell) in Griffith Park. It’s also a popular route, go early to avoid crowds. A bear statue marks the park entrance right off Los Feliz Blvd. From Los Feliz Blvd., turn right onto Fern Dell Drive.
For a 2.1-mile round trip hike to Griffith Observatory from Western Canyon, venture up West Observatory Trail from Fern Dell Drive. West Observatory Trail ascends 540 feet and provides a good little workout along with inspiring perspectives of the observatory and the city it serves.
