Jan 17, 2021 · Symphony No. 1 in D by Gustav Mahler (1860-1911). The Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy (1899-1985). This recording includes the movement "Blumine" (Flower Piece) that had been excised by Mahler while revising this symphony in the 1890's. Preserved by the family of a friend of Mahler, a copy of the movement turned up in 1959.

The base layer in Mahler's hand corresponds to the final version of the Budapest manuscript, and probably was the manuscript sent by Mahler to Schott as a Stichvorlage (engraver's copy) in 1891 in hopes of publication, and for the first time given a title: Aus dem Leben eines Einsamen (From the Life of a Lonely-one).
