Hamlet Movie Reviews. Whatever else one may say about Kenneth Branagh’s 1996 film adaptation of Hamlet, it is a visual joy. Moreover, although it is four hours long – much longer than any film has a reasonable right to be – Branagh managed to make it riveting. Even a four-hour stage performance of the play is risky for a director.

Feb 17, 2024 · A few unexpected touches: the ghost scene resembles a horror movie, Ophelia and Hamlet get it on, Polonius dallies with a prostitute, and the final duel turns into a bloody battle. Branagh is of course wonderful, and he has cast several former Hamlets in supporting roles, including the superb Derek Jacobi as Claudius.

There are brief flashbacks of Ophelia and Hamlet in bed, implying they had a sexual relationship at one time. We see Hamlet on top of Ophelia, kissing. We see the top of Ophelia's breasts (nothing explicit) as he lays on her.
