- Blessing Over the Candles. The first blessing — which is sung for all eight nights of Hanukkah — is the blessing over the Hanukkah candles.

Hanukkah Blessings. Candles are added to the hanukkiyah (Hanukkah menorah) from right to left but are kindled from left to right. The newest candle is lit first. (On Shabbat, kindle the Hannukah candles first and then the Shabbat candles.)
