New Hartford is a town in Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 6,658 at the 2020 census .  The town center is defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as the New Hartford Center census-designated place (CDP).
The Metropolitan District Water Pollution Control Plant has been in operation since 1938; it is the largest of its kind in the state. Wastewater from greater Hartford communities is treated at the rate of an average of 100 million gallons daily. The Mid-Connecticut Resource Recovery Facility opened in 1987 and is on 57 acres (23 ha).
