Oct 24, 2020 · The Hartford Convention of 1814 was a meeting of New England Federalists who had become opposed to the policies of the federal government. The movement grew out of opposition to the War of 1812, which was generally based in the New England states.

The Hartford Convention, called by the Federalists of the Massachusetts legislature, consisted of delegates chosen by the legislatures of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The delegates sought to promote the interests and policies of the New England Federalists, who vehemently opposed the War of 1812.
