To ensure the continuation of the library and take advantage of the state grant, a new site was selected, and the Harvey Helm Memorial Library was erected at Third and Church Streets in 1971. After more than 30 years, the public library outgrew its location.

The current Presbyterian Church in Stanford has stood on the same site since around 1850. A small local library was first established in the 1830s. The library was renamed in 1970 in honor of Harvey Helm, a native son who became a Kentucky statesman and member of the United States House of Representatives between 1909 and 1917.
Marker Number: 1234. Location: Main St. at Harvey Helm Library, Stanford. The Stanford Presbyterian Church, founded 1788 on this site, on Old Wilderness Trail. Land given by Mary Briggs, sister of Gen. Benjamin Logan. Church moved to its present site, 1838; land given by Logan, one of founders.
