Mar 12, 2024 · Ḥasan-e Ṣabbāḥ (died 1124, Daylam, Iran) was the leader, and believed to be the founder, of the Nizārī Ismāʿīliyyah, a Shiʿi Islamic sect that in the 12th and 13th centuries was commonly called the Assassins. Ḥasan studied theology in the Iranian city of Rayy and at about the age of 17 adopted the Ismāʿīlī faith.
