Nov 28, 2021 · For those who hate having to deal with the “Update? Ha ha j/k!” bug (where it tries to update the game with a 137MB download every time you log on), the issue is with Bnet, not HotS. To “fix” it, DO NOT LAUNCH BATTLENET!
Nov 14, 2021 · Here’s an easy workaround that does not require you to download again and again. You can open HotS without battle.net by opening the HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe. For most people it’s located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Heroes of the Storm\Support64\HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe. Tip: make a desktop shortcut.
You can go into your battle.net settings and turn off "Keep This Game Updated Automatically". This will stop the pop-up downloads from happening, and it will only happen when you start up the game. Sucks that it's been going on for like a week now, but that's the best solution I've found in the interim.
Go to your install directory ("...\Heroes of the Storm\Support64") Launch "HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe" to bypass battle.net (I recommend making a shortcut to this launcher by the way). You'll have to manually log in on the launch screen but it's a small price to pay to get in game.

Additional Functionality: Healing Wells are now invulnerable, and are destroyed when their nearby Fort or Keep are destroyed. Stand alone Healing Wells on Battlefield of Eternity and Braxis Holdout are destroyed when both Keeps are destroyed.
