Gygax married Mary Jo Powell on September 14, 1958, the couple later had five children: Ernie, Elise, Heidi, Cindy and Luke. Gygax and his first wife became Jehovah's Witnesses. Later Gygax would separate from that religion but remain a Christian, and a few months before he died he cited his favorite Bible verse, Matthew 5:15–16.

Jan 27, 2023 · Heidi Gygax, the daughter of Gary Gygax, is due to get married and is also committed to DM a few games at Gary Con. Heidi’s fiancee mocked up a cover for one of those adventures, and the project grew from there. What became a wedding reception gift is now on Kickstarter as an adventure compatible with 5e and 1e D&D (and C&C, too!).
