Helleborus niger, commonly called Christmas rose, is a winter-blooming evergreen perennial which blooms around Christmas time in warm winter regions, but later (February or March) in the cold northern parts of the growing range. Bloom time can vary considerably based upon the degree of severity of the winter climate.
Perfect to brighten the shade garden! Grows in a bushy, upright clump, up to 12-18 in. tall (30-45 cm) and 15-18 in. wide (37-45 cm). Performs best in part shade in fertile, humus-rich, moist, neutral to alkaline, well-drained soils. Avoid soils prone to drying out or staying wet.
