Nov 19, 2004 · Biography. Helmut Griem was born April 6, 1932, in Hamburg as the son of the radio officer Walter Griem and his wife Paula Griem (née Rackebrandt). After graduating from school in 1953, Griem studied philosophy and literature until 1956. In 1955, he joined the amateur theater group "Theater Frei Haus".
