Henry I, Duke of Münsterberg-Oels was born in 1448, to George of Poděbrady and Kunigunde of Sternberg. Henry married Ursula of Brandenburg, Duchess of Münsterberg-Oels. They had 4 children: Charles I Duke of Münsterberg-Oels, Albert I Duke of Münsterberg-Oels, George I of Münsterberg and Margaret of Münsterberg.
Henry III's younger brother Duke Charles II of Münsterberg-Oels, who was Governor of Silesia at the time, bought it back in 1604. He was succeeded as Duke of Bernstadt by his son Henry Wenceslaus . When Henry Wenceslaus died in 1637, the duchy was inherited by his younger brother Duke Charles Frederick I of Münsterberg-Oels .
