May 11, 2011 · Hesher materializes in the life of young T.J. (Devin Brochu) and moves into T.J.'s house. The film makes no attempt to explain much about who he is, where he came from, or precisely what he thinks about T.J.'s family. At first he seems possibly an imaginary friend for the kid, but then we realize he's quite real, all right.
The film's strength relies on the cast, and they all did a terrific job, more likely that of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Hesher is an underrated film that didn't deserved the negativity from critics.
Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews September 27, 2017 A quirky film that's served well by its great cast, but not enough to impress me that it had any depth. Full Review | Original Score: C+
HESHER---best film I saw at Sundance 2010 marciarealestate 15 March 2010 I saw "Hesher" at Sundance and your review is so far off the mark it is unbelievable. "Hesher" IS very original and very funny.
The movie boasts quite an astonishing performance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. In his feature directorial debut, Spencer Susser creates a deadpan, lost, grungy world -- the perfect place for a creature like Hesher to have evolved. At one point, Hesher tells a story about a mouse that's introduced into a snake's cage and survives.

Hesher is a masterpiece of dysfunction and redemption through fire, drugs, vagina jokesand violence. It is a refreshing left turn from the touchy-feely everything is going to work out motif that seems to be gagging the indie film market. 0 1 10

May 13, 2011 · Hesher gives a giant middle finger to a pat, easily digestible notion of grief and instead throws the viewer into the violent, angry emotions that arise when grieving over the loss of a loved one.
May 11, 2011 · Movie Review - 'Hesher' - A Metalhead Mary Poppins, Tattoos And AllThe rollicking story of an anarchic wild child who shoehorns his way into a family mourning a loss, Hesher isn't your standard...
Jun 25, 2011 · T.J., a high school freshman, lost his mother two months before in a car accident: his father pops pills and sits on the couch; his grandmother holds things together, chatting and cooking. T.J. wants the car back from the salvage yard where the owner's son is a bully. By happenstance, Hesher, a foul-mouthed squatter, moves in with T.J's family.

Hesher's solid foundation, as with any movie, is it's great script. Top that with great acting (maybe JGLs best performance ever). Hesher will make you cry and laugh and in the end will leave you with the certainty that you've just seen something, but leaves it to you to figure out exactly what that is. And that's EXACTLY what good art should do.
