  1. Jun 29, 2020 · Jacob's Well is a 30-foot-deep artesian spring just north of Wimberley. This spot is considered one of the best places to swim in the Texas Hill Country. Jacob's Well was a popular spot for divers.

    • Lost Maples State Natural Area. While Texas doesn’t have the fall colors that New England is famous for, Lost Maples State Natural Area is known for its beautiful fall foliage.
    • Pedernales Falls State Park. Pedernales Falls State Park is located on the Pedernales River and is known for its beautiful waterfalls. It is also located in one of the my most favorite Hill Country towns – adorable Johnson City!
    • Kayaking the Medina River. Kayaking the Medina River with The Medina River Company is a Hill Country must! They will provide you with kayaks and a shuttle to get to the beautiful river.
    • Pedernales State Park. This park is most famous for it’s pretty falls and water formations pictured above. Pedernales Falls is a Texas State Park, which means you can book your visit ahead of time here!
    • Jacob’s Well. Jacob’s Well is located in Wimberley and is a stunning well that is over 120 feet deep. You can jump into the well from two different places depending on how brave you are!
    • Krause Springs. In my opinion, this is hands down the best nature experience in the Hill Country. There are two main natural springs here. When we visited on a Sunday in March, we had both springs entirely to ourselves!

    • Hit the Small Towns. The small towns and two-lane roads fanning westward from Austin make up the heart of the Texas Hill Country.     • Belly Up to the BBQ. Barbecue is a religion in Texas, and one of its high altars, Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que, lures folks off the well-worn tourist trail in Llano, deep in granite country.
    • Take the Scenic Farm Roads. Roads usually serve a practical purpose—getting people from point A to point B. But in the Hill Country, you might suspect a road was paved purely for pleasure—to take drivers past stirring vistas, expansive pastures, and dense spreads of bluebonnets.
    • Take a Spin at Two-Stepping. Texas Hill Country is known for having historic dance halls that still host live music and dancing weekly. Gruene Hall, built in 1878, is Texas' oldest continually operating dance hall.

Made famous by Waylong Jennings and Willie Nelson’s famous song ‘Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)’ back in the 70s, it is now the centre of some of the best country music in Texas.
