Bollywood has taken the "happy ending" too far. The_Mighty_Warrior 28 June 2009. New York is Bollywood's first mainstream film on the 9/11 issue. Fortunately, it is not a rehashed Hollywood 9/11 film, but it treats of issues specific to South Asians post 9/11.
But I don’t think I’ll want to watch it again, half the film was quite sad & depressing. Kurbaan was better, more of a thriller while NY is a drama. It’s weird how Rensil De Silva, writer of Rang De Basanti, director of Kurbaan, faded after Ungli bombed. I thought he was one of the best in Bollywood.

The movie takes place in New York, as in the name, and deals with how the Muslims are affected by the 9/11. New York is brilliant in bits and parts. The film tries to blend the reality about terror suspects wrongly detained and put a Bollywood angle to it, with the Muslim FBI agent going after theterrorist belonging to the same faith.
New York is a contemporary story of friendship set against the larger than life backdrop of a city often described as the centre of the world. Omar has gone abroad for the first time in his life and soon enough he begins to see and love America through the eyes of his American friends - Sam and Maya.
