    The first American performance of The Planets was given by Frederick Stock with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on December 31, 1920. The first Boston Symphony performances of The Planets were given by Pierre Monteux in January 1923. The next BSO performances, in January 1932, were led by Holst himself, while he was a visiting professor at Harvard.

  8. Feb 8, 2018 · William Steinberg conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra between 1969 and 1972. During his brief tenure, he made only a few recordings. On the present disc, Steinberg conducts his BSO in Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra and Holst's The Planets. Zarathustra was recorded in 1971 and The Planets in 1970. Both have been remastered.
