Church of the Holy Family is the city’s only example of pre-Civil War Victorian architecture. It is one of five public buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The church embodies the cultural heritage and ethnic diversity of the City of Chicago.
Holy Family Church is a historic church at 1840 Lincoln Street in North Chicago, Illinois. The church was built in 1914-15 for North Chicago's Roman Catholic congregation, which was formed in 1901. Architect William F. Gubbins designed the Late Gothic Revival church.
Founded by Rev. Arnold Damen, S.J., Holy Family is the original Jesuit parish in Chicago and the mother institution of Loyola University of Chicago (1870), Saint Ignatius College Prep (1870), and St. Ignatius Parish in Rogers Park. It is the birthplace of The Catholic Order of Foresters (1883), The National Catholic Society of Foresters (1891).
