Hornberg Castle (German: Burg Hornberg) is a partially ruined castle located on a steep outcrop above the Neckar valley above the village Neckarzimmern, between Bad Wimpfen and Mosbach. It is the largest and oldest of the castles in the valley.

Hornberg’s history began around the year 1200 when the first small castle on the Schlossberg, the castle mountain, was built and the town founded. A great deal has happened in more than 800 years. A lot has been built and destroyed on this mountain.
His grandson sold the castle in 1612 to Freiherren of Gemmingen in whose ownership the castle still remains since 12 generations. In the midst of the original and pure romantic of Castle Hornberg, in 1953 the former horse stable was rebuilt into the hotel-restaurant with its distinctive charm.

In 1259 lords of Hornberg sold the castle to the bishop of Speyer. Since 1612 it has been owned by the 12th generations of Gemmingen barons. Today the castle is a hotel.
