It is also frequently assocated with the rap subgenre rap metal. The genre is generally underground in popularity, though some artists from the genre have sold rather well in the mainstream, including Insane Clown Posse, Eminem, and Tech N9ne .
The music of horrorcore artists generally uses hip hop instrumentation, including heavy sampling, such as Insane Clown Posse, House of Krazees and Twiztid, whose instrumentation tends to be built around loops and samples from and inspired by funk, soul or rock artists. Other artists such as KidCrusher and Dezlooca are more influenced by death metal, and use death metal instrumentation and death growl-inspired rapping, a style which has been described as "death rap".
