Horst Fehlhaber was born on September 10, 1919 in Germany. He was a cinematographer, known for Schön ist die Welt (1957), Flucht in die Tropennacht (1957) and The Bridge (1959). He was previously married to Magda Schneider.
Horst Wessel was the commander of the SA militia in Berlin’s neighbourhood of Friedrichshain during the late 1920s. He composed the lyrics to this song in 1929, putting them to an old folk melody that was widely familiar in Germany.
Horst Ludwig Georg Erich Wessel (9 October 1907 – 23 February 1930) was a member of the Sturmabteilung (SA), the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party, who became a propaganda symbol in Nazi Germany following his murder in 1930 by two members of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD).
