Livy died on June 5, 1904. Her death would leave a hole in the family that neither of his daughters or friends could fill. Langdon Clemens was the first-born child – and the only son – born to Sam and Olivia Clemens. He was born prematurely on Nov. 7‚ 1870‚ and continued to be weak and sickly throughout his short life. He died of diphtheria on June 2‚ 1872‚ at the age of only 19 months.
