The river water quality was assessed based on a total of 5,083 samples taken from a total of 473 rivers. Out of 473 rivers monitored, 278 (59 percent) were found to be clean, 161 (34 percent) slightly polluted and 34 (7 percent) polluted [ 1 ]. Figure 1 shows the river water quality trend for 2005-2012.
