Apr 6, 2023 · In the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “City on the Edge of Forever,” Dr. McCoy steps through the "Guardian of Forever," and the Federation ceases to exist. Captain Kirk and Spock follow McCoy through the Guardian’s time portal, chasing him to New York City circa 1930 in a desperate attempt to fix whatever he changed in time.
When a drug-crazed Dr. McCoy leaps through a time portal to 1930 Earth, he does something to change history resulting in the disappearance of the Enterprise. Kirk and Spock soon follow hoping to arrive just before McCoy. They soon find themselves working at the 21st Street Mission for the beautiful Edith Keeler.

Kirk, Spock and McCoy beam down to Minara IV to evacuate the scientists studying its star en route to going nova, but the scientists are long-gone, missing, and the landing party soon finds itself taken captive by two advanced but dried out aliens called Vians who beg their indulgence as they begin torturing them toward death.
Not only does it work as extraordinary sci-fi, there's also the bond that's developed between Kirk, Spock and McCoy that sets the stage for a friendship that really didn't exist in the series before. Most of the time in the first season, their relationship was developed along strictly professional lines, with boundaries drawn along status and rank.
