Mar 24, 2018 · According to a letter from her nephew Charles, she died at roughly 4 o’clock in the morning - about the same time as Jane had died so many years previously. Her body was taken back to Chawton and she was buried next to her mother at St Nicholas Church within the grounds of Chawton House.
Cassandra died in 1845, at the age of 72, and was buried in the churchyard of St Nicholas’, Chawton, beside her mother. Before her death Cassandra destroyed many of Jane’s surviving letters, an act which was much criticised by later generations of critics.
