Frost published only rarely in his early years and was still unknown in 1912 when he sailed with his family to England. His first two books appeared in England to critical acclaim: A Boy's Will (1913) and North of Boston (1914).
Frost's mother died that year from cancer, and his grandfather, William Prescott Frost Sr., passed away in 1901. His grandfather left him an annual annuity of $500 and the use of his Derry, New Hampshire, farm for ten years, after which ownership would pass to Robert.
