Uhtred the Bold reigned from 1006 to 1016, when he met his treacherous death at the hands of Thurbrand the Hold, a thegn of Cnut, son of Sweyn Forkbeard.
Oct 24, 2022 · When Sweyn died in February 1014, Uhtred returned his support to the exiled Æthelred, campaigning with Æthelred’s son Edmund Ironside. When Sweyn’s son Cnut invaded, Uhtred decided to throw his lot in with Cnut. On his way to peace talks with the new king, Uhtred was assassinated with forty of his men, reportedly at Cnut’s behest.
