  1. Jan 29, 2020 · Fast forward to today, and I am working on a sequel. My first one was so basic, that I just made maps using Powerpoint and shapes. However, this one is already significantly more complex and I would like to create real maps to represent the towns and buildings I am creating. I ask the hive mind of DM's, what tools do you use to create these?

    • Wonderdraft
    • Dungeondraft
    • Dungeon Scrawl
    • Dungeon Fog
    • Dungeon Builder by Hobbyte
    • RPG Map Editor 2
    • Profantasy’S Campaign Cartographer 3

Inkarnate is easily the best fantasy map-making software on the market. It’s got a slick UI, tons of assets, and can create maps in a matter of minutes. Pros 1. Easily the most fleshed-out, versatile map-building option 2. Completely online, no software download or install 3. UI is thorough enough to create amazing maps but streamlined enough to bu...

Wonderdraft is a fantasy map making software that focuses specifically on regional maps. Pros 1. Regional map making tools are unrivaled 2. One time purchase Cons 1. Software download, no in-browser option 2. While battle maps can be created using the software, it is certainly not meant for this application 3. No free option Use Case Wonderdraft is...

RPG Map Editor 2 is an online and downloadable D&D map maker that focuses on pixel-style maps. Pros 1. The best thing about this tool, in my opinion, is its integration with the Watabou One Page Dungeons tool and the donjon Random Dungeon Generator. Both of these tools are stellar starts to creating a dungeon, and being able to manipulate them with...

CC3 is easily the most intensive (and expensive) map making software available on the market. Pros 1. Extremely powerful, vector-based, CAD software 2. 3. Dynamic Dungeons - Probably the first and most popular. He makes fantastic looking maps and releases a few a month on Patreon, but the "map making" ability of this program is almost non-existant. There are a couple of tiles and props, but they are not nearly diverse enough. Also, you have to purchase his editor/player software separately ($30).

  4. [OC] I just released a Free Version of my Game 'Wildshape' on Steam! It is a Map Maker and VTT in one Software! You can use it to create beautiful, animated 3D maps and then invite your players to play online or export your maps in 4k! Please let me know what you think!

  5. For those who haven't seen BattleMapp.io yet, I've been putting together a map-maker that (mostly!) works in the browser. It's 3D and includes lots of models and effects. The latest update includes 32 dungeon rooms, some spell AOE shapes and minor bug fixes.

  6. Dungeon Scrawl - easily make square/hex/isometric dungeon maps with a quick and fast in-browser editor. Supports importing files from the Donjon.bin.sh dungeon generator (export, then import as TSV). Dungeon Map Doodler - Similar to Dungeon Scrawl. Make maps in a hand-drawn style easily. DeepNight's RPG Map Editor.
