  3. For oil and acrylic painting, get a few brushes in different shapes. Round brushes are best for detail, flat for filling in large areas of the canvas. Another way to cut costs, especially for oil and acrylic painters, is to start painting small. Small sized canvases and panels are much cheaper than larger ones.
