Open an account with Vanguard. It's because Vanguard doesn't pay for distribution. IVV and VTI (ETFs) do the same thing and are commission free at TD. If you opened a vanguard account you could trade those and any vanguard etfs without a fee or if you like your TD account you could just buy the etf equivalent funds to the mutual funds you want.
TD Ameritrade is decent enough. Definitely a step up from Robinhood's shady practices. Since Schwab acquired them (TD Am), you can buy Schwab mutual funds at TD Ameritrade commission free. Then there are no fees to buy/sell ETFs. They don't have fractional share trading on ETF's but do have DRIP reinvesting.
