  5. Alt + shift changes the layout on your PC, you have to add the ISO UK layout and switch to it using alt + shift and then press 4 like you would normally to get the pound sign. I do the same, I use ANSI Qwerty as my standard layout and Azerty (BE) as my secondary layout in case I need the specific symbols like €. GeoMB.

According to Apple, this is thus Option + Ctrl + Shift + 4 on the MacBook Pro keyboard. I saw that, and I'm afraid neither of those combinations work on my MBP.
