Choose the Blank Document option from the home screen. In the upper-left corner of the window, select the File tab. This will open a dropdown menu. Click Open. Navigate through your folders and select the PDF file that you want to open in Word. You can now edit the PDF the way you’d like in Word.

To edit a PDF, open it in Word. This works best with PDFs that are mostly text. PDFs of book chapters or something that looks like a manuscript from a copier won't be formatted well in Word. Go to File > Open. Find the PDF and open it (you might have to select Browse and find the PDF in a folder).
Follow the steps: Launch Word. Click on File in the top left. Select Open. Find the PDF. Change the file type drop-down to “PDF (*.pdf)”. Select the PDF. Click Open. Your PDF will be opened in Word for you to view and edit. However, some formatting may change. Before Microsoft Office 2013, it was impossible to directly open PDFs in Word.
To open a PDF file in Word, do one of the following: In File Explorer, right-click on the file, click Open with, and then click Word (Desktop) or Choose another app : In the Choose another app dialog box, click More apps ↓: Select Word from the list and click OK:
