Each line and space represents a different note. The five lines can be remembered with the phrase ‘Every Good Boy Deserves Football’ and the spaces with, ‘space spells FACE’.

Then 1 o’clock indicates one sharp, as does the 11 o’clock position, but for flats. You just carry on like that. Keys don’t change, they always have the same number of sharps or flats.
