Ida Lupino was born in 1918, while Vivien Leigh was born in 1913. So Ida would have been 21 years old during filming. Leigh was 26 during filming. I don't believe that age would be an issue. Lupino was in High Sierra only 2 year later in a major role along with Bogart and she did well in the context of more experienced performers.

Watching the season one episode "The Sixteen-Millimeter Shrine", you'll notice that the great Ida Lupino, as washed-up starlet Barbara Jean Trenton (which always makes me chuckle inside: Lupino never would or could have been considered washed-up), has an interesting design on her dress in the final scenes where she "merges" with her earlier life on top of the heap in Hollywood.
