Postmodern: The Once and Future King, TH White. I love this book so much but I wouldn't tackle it until you have some idea of the general outline of what typically happens in the myths. Romantic: The Idylls of the King, Tennyson YA: The Squire's Tale (& sequels), Gerald Morris. I really recommend these, although they are for a young audience.
