If it makes at least a few viewers become more critical, or at least more aware of their drinking habits, then I'd say it's served its purpose well. And being a generally good movie with a very good central performance, I believe there's a good chance it has done (and will continue to do) just that.
Oct 17, 2012 · James Ponsoldt's "Smashed" knows a lot about alcoholism, and it also knows about the good times that can go along with it. This is a serious movie about drinking but not a depressing one. You notice that in the way it handles Charlie ( Aaron Paul ), Kate's husband.
