My list also had no movies from 2010 and 2018 so 2017 might not have been the weakest movie year of the decade. The main problem 2017 had was it was an extremely weak year for foreign language films. In almost all years my top ten movie list as a few foreign language films and 2017 had none.

It was a year when new voices, most notably Greta Gerwig and Jordan Peele, came to the forefront. Big blockbusters had auteurs at the helm, giving us some of the most thought-provoking Hollywood films in recent memory.
