     I'm not %100 sure exactly the meaning of "pure" object-oriented but my answer is YES.

     From Smaltalks wikipedia page;

     Smalltalk is a "pure" object-oriented programming language, meaning that, unlike Java and C++, there is no difference between values which are objects and values which are primitive types. In Smalltalk, primitive values such as integers, booleans and characters are also objects,

     That is the same as in C#.

     If by "is C object oriented?" you mean "is C designed with facilities specifically to support object oriented programming?" then, no, C is clearly not object oriented.

     You can program in an object-orientated style in more or less any language. (I think runtime polymorphism -- i.e. virtual methods -- requires a language that supports function pointers.)

     C isn't object oriented. That was the entire purpose behind the ++

     As far as a definition of what it takes to be object oriented: check wikipedia.

     Personally, if it supports inheritance, encapsulation, and polymorphism then your good to go. Another key here is having nice keywords like class and object tend to help...

     Examples of real object oriented languages (not conclusive) are: Smalltalk, Java, c#, Python, Ruby, C++..

     Also, it's possible to have extensions to provide OO features like PHP, Perl, VB (not .Net), ...

     Have you seen the fundamental concepts of object orientation?

     • inheritance
     • abstraction
     • encapsulation
     • polymorphism
     • ...
     • classes
     • instances
     • methods
     • decoupling

     Just compare them to what C++ allows you (taken from here):

     No, it isn't. You can write a valid, well-coded, excellently-styled C++ program without using an object even once.

     C++ supports object-oriented programming, but OO is not intrinsic to the language. In fact, the main function isn't a member of an object.

     In smalltalk or Java, you can't tie your shoes (or write "Hello, world") without at least one class.

     (Of course, one can argue about Java being a completely object-oriented language too, because its primitives (say, int) are not objects.)

     C++ is usually considered a "multi-paradigm" language. That is, you can use it for object-oriented, procedural, and even functional programming.

     Those who would deny that C++ is OO generally have beef with the fact that the primitive types are not objects themselves. By this standard, Java would also not be considered OO.

     It is certainly true that C++ isn't OO to the same extent as Smalltalk, Ruby, Self, etc. are, but it is definitely an effective OO language by most standards.
