This is the only live-action/computer-animated Alvin and the Chipmunks film to be rated G by the MPAA. The film is likely based on the Alvin and the Chipmunks episode Island Fever. This is the second film that The Chipmunks get mistaken for squirrels, although the first for The Chipettes.
