For me this is definitely the correct answer. People are going to disagree and say they're proto-punk or garage rock (not saying they aren't also those), but for me the Stooges are the first band I could truly call punk rock, and they were punk AF. Yep. To me proto punk is Television and shit. Not the Stooges.
